Yeah, that's not a happy thing to hear.
I had my first one a few years ago and it actually wasn't so bad. Harder on the wallet than anything. Still, nothing in the dental chair is anything you WANT to do.
So sorry! I have had 3--all the result of pregnancy. 1 more is going to be needing one soon.
Don't let your regular dentist do it is the only advice I can give--go to an endodontist (all they do is root canals). It is faster (you are out in about 45 minutes), less painful and you have better drugs. Like April, I found that root canals are a lot less painful then getting a crown.
I love the dentist! Although, I can't say that I would love a root canal. But, in the grand scheme of things, I guess a root canal would be better than a wart on the tip of your nose. lol
